The tools we used for our cache control survey
Depending on the type of Web server you have, there are a variety of reliable, cost-effective solutions which will help you deploy expiration-based cache control on your Web site or application.
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)
Port80 Software's CacheRight is the only tool currently on the market which puts IIS cache control management in the hands of the people who understand a Web site's pages and resources -- the developer. CacheRight allows developers to create appropriate caching policies for every Web site resource through a single easy-to-master rules file and it is fully compatible with IIS 4, 5, and 6.0 (Windows NT, 2000, XP, and Server 2003).
Netscape Enterprise Server
The Netscape Enterprise server does include some built-in cache control functionality. However, if you know of a software solution which provides the granular expiration-based management of CacheRight or mod_expires for Netscape, e-mail us, and we will add it to the list.
Apache HTTP Server
For the open source Web server, mod_expires offers many of the same cache control features as CacheRight for IIS.
