Tim Berners-Lee: A "neutral communications medium is essential to our society"

Tim Berners-Lee, the guy who invented the Internet (apologies to Al Gore), is speaking out on Net neutrality:

We have been watching this brewing storm in the US Congress for some time and have been concerned that the telcos and some ISPs are pushing for a bill to sell preferential or priority routing to customers. 

If this goes though, smaller companies and individuals' sites will become second class citizens on the Net -- while the larger companies would be able essentially buy their way to the top, creating a new digital divide.  Not very fair and balanced… and not the Internet we know, love and build every day.
