Google Catching the Cache Right Bug

You may have heard about Google's new Web Accelerator technology.  Right now, she is offline due to system constraints, or perhaps because some folks are having issues with the technology.

To Port80's tired software eyes, this concept is brilliant, if not a self-selected invasion of privacy.

Its brilliance lies in the beauty and simplicity of proper cache control (insert continental accent). Enough said there.  Try it -- you will like it. And you can do it without the privacy concerns or Google right now...

Concerns?  What concerns?  Well, if you ever wondered what actually got transmitted in Microsoft error reporting, imagine bankproxying every request through Google itself.  That is some bird's eye view into your sensitive HTTP data.

I cannot wait to see the impact of their Web Accelerator on Google AdWords sales...

Cheers,

# re: Google Catching the Cache Right Bug

Privacy on the Internet? Please! Talk about consumer irrationality. Every request my friend is recorded at your ISP and they sell this data. There is no informational self-determination in the US - period. You are sorry to say not in control of what is collected on you from Web usage to credit ratings. Dump your cookies, scrub your drive, do a magic rain dance or avoid Google but you need to be consistent in your fear.

Now that I said that, do I think Google Accelerator is cool technology. Yes

Do I think it could be abused...oh yes

Do I trust Google...mostly but then again power can corrupt people and it would only take a bad egg or two at Google to cause some major damage.

I really think they need to open up their privacy and usage policies for more transparent observations by the public...right now they won't because of trade issues but how else can they expect us to trust them? I know the "do no evil" mantra, but the cynic in me says I am sure a Con Man says he's not going to fleece you before he does.
