IIS Mechanics: Get Port80 to extend your server

Beyond Port80 products, we have been building one-off custom tools for Microsoft IIS Web servers for some time now (when folks ask us for them, usually with a great deal of shyness and a certain bit of confusion RE: what the heck is ISAPI anyways…).

IIS Mechanics is the new services division of Port80 Software to do that work officially.   What can we do for you at IIS Mechanics? Well, a bunch of things that you cannot do anywhere else but at that IIS Web server.

ISAPI programming is a pain:  Imagine a large series of black boxes linked up together, from the hardware to TCP/IP oddities, third-party tweaks that are tweaked out themselves, different patch patches levels, multiple app servers, amazing coders, FrontPagers, and everything in-between -- and our software gets to touch all of these systems and their various documented and undocumented moving parts.  Oh joy.  But that is the beauty as well:  ISAPI filters, HTTP handlers and modules, all these technologies sit in front of and extend the Web server, providing an extraordinary ability to see things and change them on the fly.

We also provide a service to analyze HTTP characteristics for any list of sites.  If you are not in marketing or sales, avoid the HTTP Analysis section.  As our main developer says, “OOOH, you can analyze what Web site is running…  Big frickin’ deal.”  If you are a marketing or sales person, well, that data might seem like rocket science (and there is a science to doing mass analysis on a given list and deal with browser issues, failed requests, etc…).  Some companies have found this service to be very valuable for business and competitive intelligence.

So, let us know what you think of this new venture – now, if you need custom ISAPI programming, there is no need to be shy.  We eat this stuff for breakfast.  And if you have a list of sites, we can delve into the HTTP details and provide in-depth reports on what technology makes a Web site tick.

We are here to help --- thanks for listening!

Cheers,
IIS Mechanics (Port80’s Alter Ego)
