Put Your Sites in Order, Part II

Of course, if you actually implement the little metabase hack described here, so that you can see your sites in any order you want in the ISM, you should realize that you will risk tripping up code (outside the metabase itself) that references those sites by their old metabase numbers.

For example (ahem!) certain third-party ISAPI filters might be relying on those metabase numbers to persist their per-site configuration settings.  In other words, if you're a user of Port80 Software products, please drop us a line at info at port80software.com before trying anything like what we described in that last post at home.  That way we can first walk you through how to make sure that your reordered site identifiers won't create any problems for your installed Port80 Software products.

Okay, this concludes the Friday afternoon Public Service Announcement from your friendly neighborhood sometimes-too-creative-for-their-own-good IIS geeks.
