UPDATE FROM 2006: You no longer need this script, but can multi-select sites to disable from within the httpZip Settings Manager...Shared hosting vendors and admins with many sites/virtual servers on one box will find this free Port80 script useful with
httpZip and IIS compression deployments.
When httpZip is installed, it enables compression on all virtual servers/sites set up on IIS. Especially on a live production box, that means every site is compressing on httpZip's installation -- a bad thing for shared hosting clients who did not ask for compression (SLA issues, etc.) and for anyone who has many sites on one physcial server that they don't want to start compressing -- yet.
We recently developed a simple script to turn off httpZip compression on all sites instantly to bypass this issue for a client. To use the script,
download the WinZip archive (httpZip script_ServValChange.zip), unzip it, and extract the VBS file (ServValChange.vbs). When you have saved the file, select Start > Run and then type in the location of the file (for example: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop\ServValChange.vbs).
When you run the file, a dialog will pop up warning that you are about to disable compression with httpZip. When you proceed, you will get a success or failure message indicating the number of sites which are now disabled for httpZip compression.
You can then easily go back to httpZip and turn on compression for the right sites/virtual servers. Done and doner.
If you need any help with this or any other Port80 tool, just
give us a shout.
Cheers, mates.
